In all my years as an author (and I was first published back in 2003, albeit just for the Ghost Master Prima Guide!), never before have I been asked by a publisher to destroy my own books!
This weird turn of events has happened because a substantial number of copies of the initial print run of Game Writing: Narrative Skills for Videogames Second Edition were misprinted, and as a result Bloomsbury has issued a recall. So to get reprinted copies, I had to defile, deface, or destroy the ones I was originally sent. We did it by tearing out the title page, which was strangely liberating!
If you bought a copy of the second edition and it has the misprinting problem (several pages will have a blurred section running vertically - it's very clear when you see it!), you should contact the bookseller you purchased it from, as they should replace it for you without charge. It's a shame that this happened, but given the long and heroic road this book has had to take, this is a pretty minor final boss to overcome.
Stay wonderful,
Chris and the ihobo games team.
